Delhi IGI Airport: The first monsoon rain in Delhi-NCR has brought relief and trouble to the people. The roads have been submerged after heavy rains. Meanwhile, one person died and 6 people were injured after the parking roof collapsed at Delhi Airport Terminal-1.
In fact, during heavy rains in the morning, when the vehicles were standing in a queue at Terminal 1 of Delhi’s IGI Airport, suddenly the parking roof collapsed and many vehicles were hit by it. Panic spread among the people present there and they immediately called emergency services for help.
Delhi’s Chief Fire Officer said that 06 people are injured, who have been admitted to Medanta Airport. He said, ‘At 0650 am, a message was received from ADO Ravinder that the airport shed has collapsed, due to which 08 people are trapped and injured, who were rescued by PCR / CATS and taken to Medanta Hospital and one trapped person was taken out in a dead state.
The fire brigade said that the roof collapse was reported at around 5.30 am. At least four fire tenders were rushed to the spot to control the situation, they said. Indira Gandhi International Airport has three terminals – T1, T2 and T3. Terminal-1 handles only domestic flights.
Delhi Fire Service (DFS) officials said that during heavy rains on Friday morning, a portion of the roof of Terminal-1 of Delhi airport fell on a car, including a taxi, injuring six people. They said that a search operation is being carried out to ensure that no one else is trapped in the damaged vehicles. Apart from the roof sheets, support beams also fell, causing damage to cars parked in the pick-up and drop areas of the terminal.
They said that the injured have been admitted to the hospital. One of the six people in the car on which the iron beam fell was rescued, officials said. At around 5.30 am, DFS received information about the incident, after which three fire tenders were rushed to the airport. Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu said in a post on Twitter that he is personally monitoring the situation and the injured have been admitted to the hospital.
Check-In Counters Closed
Giving clarification after the accident, Delhi Airport said, ‘A part of Terminal 1 collapsed today due to heavy rains. Some people have been injured and the injured are being helped and given medical assistance. Due to this, all flights operating from Terminal 1 have been temporarily canceled. Check-in counters have been closed for security reasons. We regret the incident and apologize for the inconvenience caused. There is no impact on the arrival of 28 flights

Delhi and its adjoining areas have been heavily waterlogged after rains in the national capital region. At some places, half of the vehicles were seen submerged in rainwater. Safdarjung has recorded 228.1 mm of rain in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am today.
