Om Birla’s name was proposed for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker when he was elected to the Lok Sabha for the second time by defeating Congress’ Ramnarayan Meena by a margin of 2.5 lakh votes. In the 18th Lok Sabha elections, he again won from Kota seat as a BJP candidate.

Born on 23 November 1962 in Kota, Rajasthan, Om Birla started his political career at a young age. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer. After graduation, Birla worked as a farmer and social worker.
Birla, who was active in student politics from an early age, was the president of the student union at Government Senior Secondary School, Gumanpura in 1979. Birla has been associated with BJP from a young age. He worked as the district president of the party’s youth wing Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha for four years.
After this, he was appointed Rajasthan state president of the organization for six consecutive years and then promoted as the national vice-president of All India Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha for the next six years. Om Birla defeated MLA from Kota Legislative Assembly seat and strong Congress minister Shanti Dhariwal by 10101 votes in his very first election (2003).
On 19 June 2019, he was unanimously elected as the Speaker of the 17th Lok Sabha. Today again, on 26 June, voting took place for the first time in the country for the 18th Lok Sabha Speaker and Om Birla has been elected Lok Sabha Speaker for the second consecutive time.
