As three new criminal laws are being unveiled and welcomed in India, on Monday Delhi Police registered its first FIR under BNS.
As the new criminal laws came into force from July 1, the first FIR under the new laws in India was registered in Delhi on Monday.
What is an FIR?
A street vendor who created an obstruction by selling goods on the foot over bridge at New Delhi Railway Station has been booked under Section 285 of the Indian Penal Code.
Police officials on duty requested the vendor to move aside but he did not listen to them.
From July 1, all FIRs will be registered under the provision of BNS. However, cases before July 1 will continue to be registered under the Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure and Indian Evidence Act till their final disposal.
The new criminal laws are aimed at replacing British-era laws.
