It’s been more than two and a half years since Apple released the current iPhone SE, so the device is in need of an update. Below we recap the latest rumors about the next-generation iPhone SE, including possible features and launch timing.
Timing
The latest word comes from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. In his Power On newsletter last month, he said he expects the next iPhone SE to be released in the spring of 2025. All three current iPhone SE models were announced in March, so it seems likely there will also be a fourth-generation model. It will launch in March next year.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Guo and tech publication The Information said the next iPhone SE will launch in the first quarter of 2025, which has been confirmed by multiple sources. The report says Apple suppliers will begin mass producing the device in October.
iPhone SE 4 Features
The current iPhone SE price starts at $429 in the US with 64GB of storage and 4GB of RAM. The key features of the device include a 4.7-inch LCD display, A15 Bionic chip, Touch ID, Qualcomm chip with 5G support, a 12-megapixel rear camera, and a Lightning port.
The next iPhone SE is rumoured to have a design similar to the iPhone 14 with the following features:
- 6.1-inch OLED display
- A18 chip
- Face ID
- USB-C port
- Action button
- Apple-designed 5G chip
- A single 48-megapixel rear camera
- 8GB of RAM for Apple Intelligence
Gurman believes the next iPhone SE could be priced between $400 and $500, so despite the larger display and more modern features, the device would be the least expensive option in Apple’s smartphone lineup.
Update — September 2024:
Japanese publication Nikkei Asia also reported that the iPhone SE 4 with an OLED display will be released in 2025.
