The police identified Salim from CCTV footage of the area and traced him through his mobile number.
On Saturday (September 7), an auto driver named Mohammed Salim was arrested for recording the video of the Ujjain rape case and circulating it on social media.
According to reports, Salim, a resident of Nagda town in Ujjain district, will now be named as a co-accused in the case under conspiracy charges.
According to the police, when he got off the bus at Koila Patak junction, he saw the accused Lokesh raping a girl who was picking garbage on the roadside.
Instead of helping the victim, he filmed the incident on his phone and shared it on social media. The police identified the auto driver from CCTV footage installed in the area and traced him through his mobile number.
Also, the police seized his phone, recovered the video of the rape and sent it for forensic examination.
Salim reportedly has a criminal history and the police have previously booked him on several charges including assault.
Commenting on the case, Ujjain SP Pradeep Sharma said, “The person who made the video of the entire incident has been arrested by the police from Nagda. The youth’s prior criminal background has also come to light. A mobile phone has also been recovered from him, from which we have recovered the video.
“Our cyber police team is conducting forensic analysis. It is also being investigated to whom he sent the video. If it was pre-planned, action will be taken against them. The accused has been taken on remand and is being questioned,” he said.
