Sikkim Chief Minister says people’s faith and hard work of SKM workers is behind massive victory in assembly elections
The ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) is set to return to power in the Himalayan state as the party easily crossed the majority mark after the Election Commission declared the results.
147 candidates are in the fray from 32 assembly constituencies. Opposition leader and Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) supremo Chamling has lost from both the seats he was contesting. The SDF has won only one seat so far – Shiyari, where it has fielded turncoat candidate Tenzing Norbu Lamtha. Tuncoat.
SKM contested the 2024 assembly elections alone as BJP decided to break alliance with it.
The assembly elections were held on April 19 along with the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

The contest in Sikkim is likely to be a close contest between the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha and the Sikkim Democratic Front, which got a chance in November 2023 after the merger of footballer Bhaichung Bhutia’s Hamro Sikkim party.
