Om Birla was born on 23 November 1962 in a Marwari family in Kota, Rajasthan. His father’s name is Krishna Birla and mother’s name is Shakuntala Devi. He has a younger brother named Rajesh Birla. His wife’s name is Dr. Amita Birla. They both have two daughters named Akanksha and Anjali. Om Birla obtained a master’s degree in commerce from Government Commerce College Rajasthan.
After that he went to Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer for higher education. Before joining politics, he worked in the National Cooperative Consumer Federation Limited. He entered politics from student life itself. He was the president of the student union in 1979. From 1987 to 1991, he was also the district president of BJP Yuva Morcha from Kota. In 2003, he won his first assembly election from Kota (South) seat. He contested against Shanti Dhariwal from this seat.
In 2008, he again won the assembly elections. After that, he became MLA for the third time in the year 2013. Om Birla, who was an MLA from Kota South Assembly constituency from 2003 to 2014, became the Speaker of the Lok Sabha after winning the Lok Sabha elections in 2019. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he once again won from the Kota-Bundi constituency.
