Mahindra Thar Roxx: Design Details
The automaker’s GLYDE platform, which boasts 60 patents and promises very good NVH levels, underpins the Mahindra Thar Rocks. The homegrown automaker has been releasing pictures of the new car ahead of the launch, so most of the design details have already been revealed. The five-door SUV features circular LED headlights with integrated fog lamps and C-shaped DRLs in the front bumper. To add to the distinctiveness, it features an aggressive dual-tone bumper in silver and black colour. Additionally, a new painted grille with a six-slot design has been added. Along with its triangular rear quarter mirrors, the SUV also features a slanted C-pillar. However, the overall styling is in line with the boxy and upright stance of the three-door version, with both SUVs sharing several design elements. At the rear, there are the same rectangular taillights as the three-door model, with the ‘Tar’ emblem in the middle. Mahindra has also fitted new alloy wheels to the new Thar car.
Mahindra Thar Rocks: Interior Features
Inside, the Thar Rocks comes with plenty of features, including a panoramic sunroof, Harman Kardon audio system, ventilated seats with leatherette upholstery, reclining rear seats, a sophisticated fully digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, electronic steering wheel, USB charging port, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, push-button start, a 360-degree camera, manual day/night IRVM, 60:40 split rear seat, adjustable driver seat, noise cancellation, dual-zone climate control, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), rear air conditioning vents, three terrain modes (sand, mud and snow) and a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment display.
Also, the new Thar gets IntelliTurn Assist and CrawlSmart technology. The CrawlSmart system helps take automatic control of the engine, brakes and gearbox, resulting in a better driving experience on rough terrain.
The SUV gets six airbags, ISOFIX child seats, electronic stability control (ESC) and standard three-point seat belts for each passenger. You also get ADAS Level 2 features like lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control for better safety.
Mahindra Thar Rocks: Engine Options
In terms of engine options, the Thar Rocks will be available with a 2.2-litre, 150bhp diesel engine and a 2.0-litre, 160bhp turbocharged petrol engine, Mahindra said. Both engines have a peak torque output rating of 330Nm. Compared to its three-door counterpart, the petrol Tar Rocks gains 10bhp and 30Nm, while the diesel version gains 20bhp and 30Nm. Both the mills are mated to six-speed manual and automatic gearboxes.
