Lawyer-turned-lawyer S Jaishankar was sworn in as India’s Foreign Minister on June 9. His wife Kyoko Somegawa, or Kyoko Jaishankar as we Indians Americans know him, have been a supportive partner throughout his great career. Kyoko, who is Japanese, met S Jaishankar when he was posted as a consular officer at the Indian Embassy in Tokyo from 1996-2000. Kyoko Jaishankar and S Jaishankar share the same birthday, 9th January. He can be seen in many places around the world and events with Jaishankar dressed beautifully in Indian traditional wear. They have three children together.
Recently, the couple was seen together at the European Day celebrations in Delhi in May. On the occasion, the Prime Minister expressed hope that the cooperation between India and the European Union will grow further in the future. The 69-year-old noted, “As a country that leads the G20, we are very proud of the value and contribution that the EU and other European countries have made to the G20. “
Kyoko Jaishankar’s Role In G20 Summit
Kyoko Jaishankar was instrumental in hosting all the first ladies of the G20 delegation at the summit when they visited India in September. As the wife of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kyoko is responsible for providing visitors with knowledge and memories of the country.
He first welcomed the representatives of the G20 to the chair of India’s Green Revolution, Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) campus in New Delhi. They were served forkfuls of millet from the farm fresh by chef Kunal Kapur.
Kyoko welcomes visitors to the exhibition titled Origins and History: Past, Present and Future at the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi. It presents an exhibition on the progress of Indian art and culture through history, displaying objects such as Gandharva sculptures and Pahari miniatures specially brought by the Government Museum. and Art Gallery, Chandigarh.
Kyoko Jaishankar cooperated with the Indian delegation to provide approval to visit India for about 18 G20 spouses, including Akshata Murthy of the UK; Yuko Kishida, wife of the Japanese Prime Minister; Mauritian Prime Minister’s wife Gobita Ramdhani and World Bank President’s wife Ritu Banga.
