The 2024 Olympic Games are an emotional experience for athletes and spectators, starting with memorable performances during the opening ceremony. Leading the group was Celine Dion, who sang “Hymne à l’Amour” from the Eiffel Tower while battling a skin disease — and Kelly Clarkson’s reaction said exactly what we were all thinking.
“I’m inspired, I’m dancing, I’m not ready for the end,” she said while vomiting during the NBC broadcast. “If you know anything about Celine right now, she thinks this is her goal… and if you know anything about what she’s going through right now — I’m sorry, I’m trying to keep it together right now. But the star received some criticism after revealing during a recent episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show that she was using weight loss pills after her guest Whoopi Goldberg raved about Monjaro injections.
Kelly shared that she was initially unsure about using the drug to lose weight, but ultimately decided to use it “because my blood wasn’t working properly.” The American Idol alumnus said she is “insecure” about her weight. “I’m happy,” she added.
This prompted Kelly to share her own experience. Kelly revealed she has lost “a lot” of weight, before adding, “I’m different than people think, but I also did it because my blood was bad.” She also added: “Everyone thinks it’s Ozempic. No. “
Over the past few months, Kelly has been open about adopting an active lifestyle, changing her diet and taking medications to control her weight. Back in January, she announced a pre-diabetes diagnosis along with a move to New York City, prompting her to spring into action.
“I’m not very happy in L.A. and have been for years. I want a fresh start,” Kelly told People earlier this year. “Just being able to come into Season 5 happy and know that my kids are happy — and the dust has settled. Season 5 was my first season to enjoy every minute of it.”
Now, the “You Don’t Make Me Cry” singer says her exercise, diet and lifestyle have been updated to help her on her journey. Did Kelly Clarkson use Ozempic?
Kelly says she does not take Ozempic for weight loss. On a recent episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the singer talked to her guest Whoopi Goldberg about her weight loss. After Whoopi discussed taking Monjaro, Kelly opened up about her experience with the weight loss pills.
Kelly said he has lost “a lot” of weight and said, “I’m different than people think, but I did it because I had bad blood.” He also said he was not taking Ozempic.
Kelly did not name the drug but said it was “something to help lower blood sugar — obviously my body isn’t working well.” He also said his doctor “has been chasing me down for two years.”
“I said, ‘No, I’m scared of it. I have thyroid problems,'” he said.
But Kelly told Whoopi he decided to start taking the drug after watching a birthday special she was planning to release. “I immediately stopped him, and I said, ‘Who the fuck is that?'” he said. “You look at him and say, ‘Well, he’s going to die of a heart attack,'” Kelly added.
Kelly also revealed that, at his heaviest, he weighed 203 pounds. (He is 5 feet, 3.5 inches tall.)
“It’s a different thing. … I never see that. I’m really insecure about it. I’m happy. People say, ‘Oh, she shouldn’t be happy.’ No, I’m happy. I don’t see it,” he said.
Kelly said she also talked to her boss, whom she has known for 15 years, and got a similar response. “He was like, ‘I know, I’m just as surprised as you are,’” Kelly said. “And I think because your people are with you all the time, it’s slower. You just don’t know yet.”
Kelly has faced some backlash for opening up about her weight loss.
Kelly hasn’t posted on Instagram since late May. But people flooded the comments with criticism of what she shared about her weight loss on her recent post.
“Let’s be honest and clear???!!! You did not lose 40 pounds in 2 months without major help!!?? People aren’t stupid,” one wrote, “I really love you Kelly tab but we all know you take drugs to lose weight. Why do you have to lie about it? Just disappointed 😞 😢,” another said.
But while some people said they were disappointed, others came to her defense. “Forgive these people, you do this! Nobody else’s business, you are engaged in your own time. Between you and your doctor. Congrats on your journey, so happy for you!” one fan said. Another added, “Hey you look great and as long as you feel good, do this for everyone.”
Meanwhile, Kelly’s famous friends have come to her defense.
“As someone who’s been through this…I took the equipment when I went through the surgery,” Today co-host Al Roker, who underwent gastric bypass surgery in 2002, said during the May 14 episode. “It’s not easy, no matter what you do. So step away from people.”

Joey, 81, said “dieting didn’t work for her,” while Sunny Hostin, 55, reflected on the “epidemic of [body] shaming.”
“Everything has to stop,” Sunny added. “People don’t say to a man, ‘Hey, are you on Viagra?’ I don’t think choosing your health should be a conversation.”
Her weight loss started after a health scare.
In December 2023, Kelly revealed her weight for the first time on her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show. At the time, she revealed that she no longer wears Spanx, according to Life & Style. “In this house, it’s so cold. I don’t have to wear Spanx anymore. I just wear them for warmth, like thermals,” Kelly said during the chorus.
But on January 29, Kelly announced on her show that she was doing “something” about her weight after being diagnosed with pre-diabetes a few years ago.
King of Queens star Kevin James, who guest starred on the series, brought Kelly a vanilla malted milkshake as a gift. But Kevin revealed he would “get in trouble” for directing because he’s shooting information about the performance.
“There’s a huge difference between staying in shape and losing weight. I’m a ladder,” Kelly revealed. When Kevin told Kelly she was “amazing,” she joked, “That must help.”
Kelly revealed two years ago that she was “pre-diabetic.”
“I’m not surprised,” he said. “I’m a little fat.”

Did Kelly Clarkson get weight loss surgery?
Kelly didn’t share anything about having weight loss surgery. Instead, she talked a lot about losing weight through changes to her diet and exercise, as well as taking irregular medications.
After Kelly revealed that she was abusing drugs, the talk show host didn’t say anything more about her weight.
But Kelly said being thin doesn’t make her feel more confident.

Kelley said NBC Entertainment chief Paul Telegdy hired her “because he loved my personality, he loved the way I connected with people and I was raw and real.” She added, “It has nothing to do with my sex appeal or my beauty. It has to do with me as a person. I think it’s really about the cast forcing those same emotions out of people.”

As Kelly said, her diet is a mixed diet, meaning she still allows for medical treatments.
“But I still splurge. The other night I had frozen yogurt with my daughter and it was magical,” she added.
In 2018, Kelly revealed that she had lost 37 pounds so far. “I know the industry loves to talk about weight loss, but for me it’s really not about losing weight,” he told Today host Hoda Kotb. He pointed to an autoimmune disease and thyroid problems as the reason for changing his diet.
“For me, it’s not really serious. For me, it’s not my medication anymore,” he added. “My blood is back up, and I haven’t taken my medication since February.”
Kelly told Hoda that he has only changed ingredients in his meals to make them healthier. “It’s the same thing you eat—I just use different ingredients,” he said. “Even if it’s like fried chicken, I use wheat flour, tapioca, or almond flour, and you use non-hormonal chicken.”
But Kelly acknowledged that for many people, this isn’t the easiest way to go. “I’ll be serious with you: It’s very expensive to do this,” he said.
Kelly later revealed that she lost weight after The Plant Paradox by Dr. Steven Gundry. The Plant Paradox Diet is a lectin-free diet that excludes beans, legumes, whole grains, certain vegetables, and dairy.
“I read this book, and I read it for an autoimmune disease that I had and I had thyroid issues, and now all my levels are back up,” Kelly told Plus that same year. “I’m not in therapy anymore because of this book. It’s important to talk about how we cook our food, eat non-GMO, no pesticides, really organic…wow, I didn’t do all that!”

What workouts does Kelly do?
Aside from hanging out in New York, Kelly hasn’t revealed much about his current gym. However, he previously opened up about his career during a visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2020.
He told People, “Sometimes I’m more fit and get into hardcore kickboxing. And then sometimes I’m not fit, and I’m like…I need alcohol.”

“Why do we always have to tell everyone? Is there any one of us who finds ourselves seriously ill and won’t welcome any medical help we can get?” someone wrote in the comments of one of Kelly’s Instagram posts. “And it’s her business if she wants to share that part of the time or if she doesn’t.”
