According to the state government, a major stream in Pethavaku, Eluru district may breach its banks at two places due to overflowing of floodwater.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu held a meeting with some officials as several places in the state received heavy rains and discussed ways to minimise the damage caused by the bad weather.
On Thursday night, the Chief Minister held a teleconference with the District Collector and Superintendent of Police of Eloor.
The Chief Minister directed officials to avoid loss of livestock and life and property. An official press release on Friday said that 15 villages in Andhra Pradesh and 3 villages in neighbouring Telangana are likely to be flooded.
According to the state government, Pethavaku, a major stream in Eluru district, is in danger of breaching at two places.
On Thursday, Eluru district officials rescued 25 people stranded near Khathamaisamma temple in Narayanapuram village in neighbouring Telangana.
Similarly, officials rescued 11 people with bulldozers at Routhukudam village in Jheelukumilli mandal, while local villagers rescued 5 people after their car was almost swept away in the floodwaters of Kodisela canal in Velarupadu mandal.
In a press release, the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) said that till 7 pm on Thursday, Jangarettikudam and Koiyalakudam recorded 137 mm and 111 mm rainfall respectively, while Mandapeta in Ghonsima district recorded 99 mm rainfall.
Kadayam and Nidadavolu in East Godavari district recorded 92 mm and 91 mm rainfall respectively.
The APSDMA further said that heavy rains were recorded at 18 places and moderate rains were recorded at 85 places.
The Visakhapatnam-based Eastern Naval Command (ENC) of the Indian Navy on Thursday evacuated 28 people stranded in floods from Coimbatore, 250 km west of the port city.
Responding to the request of the state government, the Navy deployed seven aircraft and launched a search and rescue operation, which included one P8I, one Tornier, Sea Kings and ALH helicopters, the ENC said in a statement.
The weather department has predicted very heavy rains over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP) and Yanam areas on Friday, while parts of South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP) will receive heavy rains.
Heavy rains are also expected over these geographical areas on Saturday.
According to the weather department, a well-marked low pressure area over northwest coast of Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal intensified into a low pressure area around 8.30 am on Friday.
It is likely to move northwestwards and cross Odisha coast near Puri as a depression tomorrow (Saturday) morning. Thereafter, it will move in a west-northwesterly direction over Odisha and Chhattisgarh and weaken gradually during the next 24 hours, the weather department said in a press release.
The monsoon at mean sea level is currently advancing towards Jaisalmer, Kota, Guna, Sagar, Raipur, Puri and adjoining northwestwards and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal.
ASDMA Executive Director R. Kurmanath advised people living in low-lying areas to remain alert and avoid crossing swollen canals and drains.
He also advised farmers, agricultural labourers and cattle herders to avoid hiding under trees due to the threat of thunderstorms.
