Israel’s attack on Rafah has left several civilians dead, leading people to share the phrase “all eyes on Rafah”.
You may have seen a particular image of tents arranged to form the phrase “All eyes on Rafah”, or you may have seen people sharing this phrase as part of their stories or posts. They are showing their support for the southern Gaza city of Rafah, where 45 people were killed and more than 200 injured after an Israeli airstrike on Sunday.
When Did This Attack Happen?
On 26 May, an airstrike hit a camp for displaced people in Rafah, Reuters reported. This came after Hamas launched rockets into the Tel Aviv area.
After the incident, the UN Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) shared a post on Twitter and wrote, “Gaza has become hell on earth. Families are constantly seeking refuge, trying to escape the war, but there is no such thing as a safe place in the Gaza Strip. No one is safe: not civilians, not aid workers, no one is spared. We need #CeasefireNow.”
The health ministry in the Hamas-run region said the attacks “killed 35 martyrs and injured dozens, most of them children and women”. Later, it was found that 45 civilians were killed in the attack.
In a statement, the Israeli military said the attack was based on “accurate intelligence” against “legitimate targets under international law”. He said two “senior” Hamas officials were killed.
Global outrage
The attack has sparked global outrage, with many condemning it and many calling for a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel. Last year, Hamas entered Israel through the Gaza border in a deadly attack that killed hundreds. The group now controls politics.
The attack on Rafah came two days after a ruling by the United Nations International Court of Justice (ICJ), where the court ordered Israel to stop its attack on the city.
ICJ President Judge Nawaf Salaam said, “Israel must immediately cease its military offensive in the Rafah Governorate and any other actions that could put the Palestinian group in Gaza into a condition of life that leads to its physical destruction, in whole or in part.” “Can lead to destruction.” The order got the support of 13 out of 15 judges.
Who All Posted “All Eyes On Rafah”?
Many people posted this phrase, including celebrities like Priyanka Chopra, Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Trupti Dimri and Richa Chadha. Rohit Sharma’s wife Ritika Sajdeh also shared the viral phrase but later deleted it after facing trolling. Over 46 million Instagram users (and counting) have shared Rafah’s story.
