The story of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is that
after six thousand years of Kurukshetra war, the whole earth will be destroyed. In Kashi, which is said to be the first city, people are suffering without even drinking water. As the entire nature is being destroyed, Supreme Ashkin (Kamal Haasan) creates a new world called Complex. The complex contains resources unmatched anywhere else in the world. To enter that world you need at least one million units (money). Kashi people work very hard for those units. Fighter Bhairava (Prabhas) is also one of them. His desire is always to go to the complex and feel comfortable. Willing to do any work for the units. He is accompanied by Buzzi (a machine that thinks with the help of artificial intelligence).
On the other hand, the rebels revolt against Yashkin’s injustices. Their goal is to end the Supreme Ashkin and make the complex’s resources available to all. For that, they create a secret world called ‘Shambala’ and fight from there. Supreme Ashkin conducts an experiment called ‘Project K’ in ‘Complex’. Sum-80 alias Sumathi (Deepika Padukone) who is pregnant escapes from the complex and goes to Shambala.. Complex men try to catch Sumathi. Bhairava also goes for Sumathi with the intention that if she is handed over he can go into the complex.
Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan) tries to save Sumati from the clutches of both of them. Who is Ashwatthama? What is the reason why he did not die for thousands of years? Why is he protecting Sumati? Who is the child growing in her womb? What is the ‘Project K’ experiment undertaken by Supreme Ashki? Has Bhairava’s wish to enter the complex come true? What is the background of Bhairava? How did he get the power to fight Ashwatthama? What is the relationship between Bhairava and Ashwatthama? You have to watch the movie to know that.
As it is..
experimenting on the silver screen is not possible for everyone. Few directors are able to screen diverse stories. Did it succeed? Or? Apart from that.. that experiment is an ideal for many people. Director Nag Ashwin did such an experiment with ‘Kalki 2898’. He has created a world never seen before on the Indian silver screen.
Taking the characters from Puranas and adding fiction to it, he made this film in a brand new way. He made this film in a way that is not inferior to the Hollywood Marvel movies. Visuals and graphics are amazing. The complex and shambolic worlds mesmerize the audience.
But in terms of story, there is nothing much in it. He said without saying that the whole story will be in part 2. Actually the story written by Nag Ashwin is very big. There are many characters. It is a task that cannot be completed in one part. Even Nagi knows that. That’s why Part 1 was mostly used for character introductions.
The story begins with the battle of Kurukshetra. After that the whole story goes to the time after six thousand years. After the introduction of the worlds of Kashi, Complex and Shambala, the audience becomes engrossed in the story. Prabhas’ character makes an entry with a huge action scene. Bujji and Bhairava’s comedy dialogues are somewhat impressive. After that the story moves slowly. The introduction of the characters mostly happens in the first half. A new character entry every five minutes is quite entertaining. The interval scene increases the interest in the second half.
In the second half the pace of the story picks up. The action scenes between Prabhas and Amitabh are impressive. Telling the story of Mahabharata with Amitabh’s character in the middle.. Stars like Rajamouli, Dulquer Salmaan, Vijay Deverakonda appearing in key roles will increase the audience’s interest. And the scenes in the last 20 minutes will give goose bumps. The twist in the climax is thrilling and will increase the interest for part 2.
Who did it?
There are many characters in this movie. Due to this, Prabhas will also be seen on the screen for less time. His action and comedy as Bhairava is impressive. Prabhas also played another role in this, which should be seen on the silver screen. After Prabhas, Amitabh is the most mature character in this film. He was cast in the role of Ashwatthama. Even at this age, he enjoyed the action scenes. The fight between Prabhas and Amitabh is the highlight of the movie. Kamal Haasan was seen in a different getup as Supreme Ashkin. But his character length is very short. His role will be more in part 2. Deepika Padukone impresses with her performance as Sumita, a pregnant woman. Annaben as Rebel Khaira from Shambala Pramchan, Rajendra Prasad as Rumi, Pashupathi as Veeran and the rest of the actors acted according to the scope of their roles.
Technically this movie is amazing. Cinematography and artwork are very good. Nag Ashwin’s imaginary world has been brought to life by the technical team. Santhosh Narayanan’s music is not very impressive. The songs, however, sounded worse on screen. Background music is also average. Build values are good.
